Walking with Kate is discovering a different Padua. Not exactly the Padua of Kate, but in some parts, the oldest. The famous Padua Urbs Picta, a Unesco World Heritage Site since summer 2021, thanks to its 14th-century fresco cycles by Giotto.
The guide accompanying you will recount this fascinating and complex love story between Kate and Petruchio, which ends with Kate’s submission to her husband’s authority.
The walk lasts about 2 hours. The actress wears period costume and recites the original version of the text, while the guide provides historical insights about the locations representing the most important scenes of this hilarious comedy.
Unfortunately, the only real connection to The Taming of the Shrew” is a 14th-century house in the Santa Lucia district, marked as Kate’s residence. A nearly illegible plaque on the façade recalls this, quoting line from Act I, Scene I.
The scenes will take place in iconic city locations: fro Palazzo Bo to Piazza Erbe and Piazza dei Signori; in front of Kate’s house and then in Piazza Duomo; viewing the “Specola”-Observatory, and on the Ponte dei Papi in Prato della Valle.
